How to choose a Christmas centerpiece or pick

Start with the space you want to fill. A centerpiece for a dining table needs to sit low enough that guests can see across it. A pick is smaller and works in tighter spots, like a place setting, a napkin fold or a small vase.

Think about the look you want. Glitter and shine read as dressy. Paper toppers in classic shapes read as playful and traditional. Both styles mix well with fresh greenery, ribbon and candlelight.

Count the spots you want to cover. A pack of 50 picks gives you room to spread them across a table, a tree and a few gifts. A single berry spray is better when you want one focal point.

Sizes and measuring

The Gilded Berry Stem is a spray with bendable wire, so you can shape it to the height and width you need. The wire core lets you curve the stem around a vase rim or tuck it into a garland.

Choose one main centerpiece for the middle. Add two berry stems, one on each side, bent outward. Place one paper pick at every setting. If you have a long table, repeat the pattern down the length.
